The function of the game has often been underestimated. In the past it has been defined more as a pastime, an activity to be dedicated to only once the most important, most serious activities have been carried out. Today, however, it has taken on significant educational importance, and has been recognized as a real "right" for every child with Resolution 44/25 of 20 November 1989 by the United Nations General Assembly.
